Meet Bo Leung (He/They), a dynamic multimedia artist, filmmaker, and photographer hailing from the vibrant canvas of New York City. With a BA in Visual Arts from Fordham University as a cornerstone and an ongoing pursuit of an MFA in Integrated Media Arts at Hunter College, Bo's artistic journey unfurls like a tapestry woven with creativity and curiosity.
Bo's creative tapestry is interwoven with explorations into themes of loss, memory, and the intricate nuances of the human experience. Within their works, viewers are beckoned to traverse the emotional landscape of love and memory, delving into intricate layers of feeling and reflection.
Drawing inspiration from the melodies of music and the vivid realms of anime, Bo masterfully integrates digital glitching and poignant film stills, evoking a dance between memory and its morphing visage over time. An artist deeply fascinated by the intersection of technology, memory, and the profound echoes of loss, Bo captivates how these facets mold our perceptions of reality.
As a queer artist of color, Bo's creations are indelibly imprinted by their odyssey of identity and belonging in a world that can often overlook and sideline those who defy established norms.
Beyond their explorations of memory and loss, Bo's vision is a catalyst for uplifting marginalized voices and reshaping the prevailing narratives surrounding race, gender, and sexuality. Each piece serves as a poignant dialogue between the spectator and the narrative, conjuring spaces for introspection, meditation, and a richer comprehension of our place in the world.
Specializing in lifestyle and brand photography, adept social media management, dynamic digital content generation, and compelling public relations, Bo seamlessly molds storytelling into evocative images and videos.
Bo's artistic odyssey has graced esteemed venues around the world, from the venerable Gallery Le Pavé d'Orsay in Paris, France, to the intimate Ildiko Butler Gallery at Fordham University, and the illustrious Brooklyn Museum. Their creations have also ignited minds within the hallowed halls of the Hunter College Black Box and the captivating Sweet Flypaper Gallery.
In addition to their artistic endeavors, Bo has brought their expertise to Hunter College as an adjunct professor in the Film and Media department. Teaching production classes in film, design, and web design, as well as analytical classes on media theory, Bo enriches and inspires the next generation of creatives.
Beyond the canvas and the classroom, Bo has donned the mantle of a Research Associate for the Research Foundation of The City University of New York. Notably, they've also collaborated with Ebony L. Haynes, Director at David Zwirner, to give birth to the trailblazing STRAIGHT LICK global online gallery show, garnering praise from the visionary Virgil Abloh.
As a testament to their enduring impact, Bo's name will journey a staggering 1.8 billion miles as it graces NASA's Europa Clipper spacecraft, embarking on a monumental voyage to explore the icy moon of Jupiter.
Bo Leung's story resonates, reverberating across mediums, cultures, and galaxies, an artistic force driving us all to reflect, reimagine, and redefine.
